This isn't my RV CamperVan. It belongs to my sister. I'll focus on mine in the next post. Before I started I borrowed hers and took it on a trip to see how I liked it. While I was still in my house. I love to go camping and hiking. I used my SUV to begin with which worked fine for 2 or 3 days but longer was uncomfortable. I really like her RV camper but I've owned chevy's before and had problems with them. But mostly, I wanted something older even though it would presumably mean doing some work to it. I also knew I wanted to travel but I couldn't do so and keep my house plus I still have a few years of making payments. Honestly, I thought living in an RV/van would be easy. What made me think that I don't know. My GF travels all the time with work and often sleeps in her car and I thought if she could sleep in her car then I could definitely do it in a van/RV. After doing alot of research and getting my brother's and other's input I decided on a campervan and I'll talk about that in another post. It's an older one(1989), maybe a little old but a nice one.
My sister's campervan is much newer and has a full bathroom in it. It's small but usable but I never even used the toilet unless I had to in the middle of the night when I was parked in a walmart, lowes or somewhere similar. Even when I'm in a campground I will use the camper toilet if I'm not close to the campground restrooms(for me, that is across or 1 or 2 camp spots away from the bathrooms). I never use my van toilet for number 2. My van doesn't have a shower, just a toilet which doesn't bother me too much because I go to the gym for showers when I'm near a planet fitness, I was going to pick up a membership with workout anytime because everywhere I've traveled there are more workout anytime's than planet fitness. It seems everywhere I travel I see workout anytime or anytime fitness which is too expensive for me. So far I've just stuck with planet fitness and do bird bath's when I'm not near one or at a campground. That's the downside of van life. I can't shower every day and that's a major downside that I didn't think would be a problem when I started this lifestyle. I thought there'd be a gym everywhere I went. At first I said, there's no way I can go a day or days without showering but here it is and I've had too. I wanted to travel but I also wanted out from under the years of house payments I had left and lot rent. After retirement, I still had to work a full time job to make ends meet.
I'm still having to work but only part time and I don't have to work all the time.
Like I said in my last post I was out joyriding when I found this really cool, old, abandoned house here in New York. But I'm leaving for Oklahoma in a few days where I'll stay for a few weeks then I'll head to Tennessee and stay with my brother for a couple of weeks and get some rest, get my van inspected and registered, see my doctor for my yearly physical and do a couple of other things while there then I'll leave again. I like having my privacy in my van even if I don't like living in it all of the time. There are times when I get depressed more than usual. I suffer from depression and take medication for it so it's struggle but I'm making it. What else can I do?
Living in a van isn't much different than living in a house except I'm out in public all the time so I like to look presentable. I walk and hike when I'm not working. I couldn't bring my bicycle with me, I left it with my brother. I watch TV at night on my iPad or my Samsung tablet(the screen is bigger than my iPad). I no longer watch TV on my laptop. It just isn't as comfortable. I eat mostly dried, nonperishable foods. I'm looking into getting a small fridge for the van if I can find the room. I like the van to be simplistic with as little in it as possible except for having more clothing than I should but I learned on my first outing that not having enough meant going to the thrift store or walmart and buying new stuff and that gets expensive. I don't like doing laundry too often. This works for me.
